About the Track

Founded in 1947, Martinsville Speedway has hosted NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races annually since the beginning of the division in 1949. Only measuring .526 miles long, this speedway is the shortest track in the circuit. This track is one of the most modern facilities for racing and because of its size, it brings the excitement closer to the fans than any other track on the circuit.

Track History

Martinsville Speedway was built in 1947 by H. Clay Earles and began as a dirt race track. The first NASCAR series race was held in 1949 and was won by Robert “Red” Byron. The track became the modern marvel it is today when purchased by International Speedway Corporation in 2004.
